Senator Rosen And President Sandoval Secured Nearly $21 Million In Federal Funding For The Lithium Loop Tech Hub Earlier This Month
RENO, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval held a roundtable discussion in Reno with labor and Tribal leaders about opportunities the Lithium Loop Tech Hub will bring to northern Nevada thanks to the federal funding they secured. This funding will support new lithium workforce initiatives, invest in STEM education, and bolster workforce opportunities, including for Native American and Indigenous students. The Tech Hubs program, authorized by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act that Senator Rosen helped pass, invests directly in high-potential U.S. regions and aims to transform them into globally competitive innovation centers.
“I was immensely proud to work closely with President Sandoval to secure the Tech Hub designation and the millions in federal funding for the University of Nevada, Reno to lead Nevada’s Lithium Loop Tech Hub – supporting our lithium battery technology and strengthening workforce development programs in the area,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Today, we sat down with labor and Tribal leaders at the University to hear directly from them about the new opportunities this funding will create for northern Nevada and how we can continue to support innovation and economic development in the region.”

Rosen’s tireless advocacy,” said Brian Sandoval, President of the University of Nevada, Reno. “The nearly $21 million we were awarded by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) will allow us to expand workforce development opportunities in the lithium battery and Electronic Vehicle (EV) materials industry and support critical community ecosystem development that is inclusive of Nevada’s Indigenous peoples. The University is excited to move forward with this once in a generation project and is grateful for this unique opportunity to serve the state of Nevada.”
Senator Rosen has been leading the charge with President Brian Sandoval to bring the Tech Hub designation and funding to Nevada. Senator Rosen helped secure the Tech Hub designation for the Lithium Loop project led by the University of Nevada, Reno. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen convened a meeting with Secretary Raimondo and University President Brian Sandoval to advocate for this funding. Senator Rosen also hosted President Sandoval as her State of the Union guest as part of the push for millions of dollars in funding.
