Rosen Joins Colleagues in Urging Senate Republican Leadership to Pursue Bipartisan Solutions on Border and Immigration

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Senate colleagues in a letter urging Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to work together to secure the border and reform our broken immigration system. The letter emphasizes the Senators’ commitment to improving border security, protecting Dreamers and farm workers, and fixing our nation’s immigration system.

“We understand that Senate Republicans have discussed using the budget reconciliation process to advance border security budget measures without any Democratic input,” wrote the Senators. “While that’s your right, in working together on a bipartisan basis, we can achieve the best outcome for the American people. There are also limitations to what can be done under budget reconciliation, and as we’ve seen time and time again, no party has all the solutions on this or any issue.”

“We remain ready to work with you in good faith to craft legislation that can achieve bipartisan support and 60 votes in the Senate,” they continued. “While there will be challenges, addressing the pressing needs of our nation’s borders and finding bipartisan solutions to our outdated immigration system are too important to ignore in the 119th Congress.”

Senator Rosen has been clear in her support for securing the border and making sure the asylum process is humane and orderly. She has also been outspoken in opposing mass deportation, and strongly supporting DACA and TPS recipients and their families. Earlier this week, she released a statement condemning President Trump’s unconstitutional attempt to end birthright citizenship. She also applauded the Biden Administration’s extension of TPS status for immigrants from El Salvador and Venezuela, after calling on it to continue to protect displaced Salvadorans. She has raised concerns over the significant application delays impacting DACA recipients, and gave a floor speech urging her Senate colleagues to take immediate action to permanently protect Dreamers, while simultaneously continuing to work to pass comprehensive immigration reform that provides a pathway to citizenship.
