WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) issued the following statement on the 52nd anniversary of the Roe V. Wade decision, the third since the Supreme Court overturned it.
“Fifty-two years ago, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that women had the constitutional right to make their own reproductive choices,” said Senator Rosen. “Shamefully, women are now dying in states across this country because Trump-appointed judges overturned Roe and opened the door to extreme abortion bans. I’ll continue to fight against efforts to enact a nationwide abortion ban and stand up for women’s freedom to make decisions about their own bodies.”
Senator Rosen has been fighting back against efforts to restrict access to reproductive rights. Last year, she gave a speech calling for the restoration of Roe v. Wade into federal law. Senator Rosen voted to protect women’s constitutional right to access birth control and helped introduce a bill to safeguard the ability to start or grow a family by establishing a legal right to access IVF and other assisted reproductive technology. She also helped introduce the Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act to protect doctors and other health care professionals from being prosecuted for providing reproductive care to their patients and the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect reproductive freedoms in federal law.
