WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Eureka County $1,714,899 to repair road damage caused by the record-breaking winter storms in 2023. Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen urged President Biden to make this funding available following a series of storms that resulted in devastating damage across parts of Nevada, causing widespread flooding, rockslides, and landslides that contributed to more than $10 million in damages to public infrastructure.
“Last year’s extreme winter storms that later resulted in severe flooding devastated communities in Northern Nevada, which is why I pushed the Biden Administration to approve Governor Lombardo’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration to make funds available for the impacted counties,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m proud to announce that Eureka County will receive more than $1.7 million to repair Eagle Road that was badly damaged by these storms. As I told the Eureka County officials I met with last year, I’ll always fight to ensure rural communities across Nevada have the federal resources they deserve.”
“I fought for this funding to help Nevada recover from last year’s devastating storms, and I’m glad to announce this grant to help Eureka County repair roads by snow, floods, and mudslides,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’ll keep working to make sure our rural communities have what they need to keep residents safe and connected.”
Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto are committed to ensuring Nevadans have access to federal resources in the face of natural disasters that threaten the state. Following last year’s storms, the Senators called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to utilize all tools and powers at its disposal to assist Nevada farmers and ranchers impacted by extreme winter weather. They have also urged the FEMA to provide federal assistance to address extreme heat in Nevada. In addition, Rosen and Cortez Masto joined their colleagues in asking the White House for federal funds to help Nevada fight wildfires and extreme drought.
