Following Rosen Push, Historic $1.3 Billion in Funding Secured for Housing in Tribal Communities

Senator Rosen Recently Called On Appropriations Committee Leaders To Provide Increased Funding For Tribal Housing

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she helped secure more than $1.34 billion in funding for Tribal housing programs as part of the first bipartisan government funding package for Fiscal Year 2024 that was passed by Congress and signed into law last week. Last month, Senator Rosen called on Senate Appropriations Committee leaders to provide robust funding for Tribal housing programs as part of the government funding legislation, highlighting that Congress has consistently underfunded critical programs that support affordable housing development, operation, and maintenance for Tribal communities.

“As we confront a housing shortage and affordability crisis, Tribal communities in Nevada are being hit particularly hard,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “That’s why I pushed for increasing funding for housing in Tribal communities in the bipartisan government funding package I helped pass. I’ll continue fighting to lower housing prices for hardworking families across our state.”

“Thanks to the strong leadership of Senator Rosen, together we’re delivering record funding for Native communities in Nevada and across the country. This funding will help support unique and urgent Native housing needs, including building more affordable housing, providing rental assistance, and getting electricity and plumbing into homes,” said U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, Chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.

Senator Rosen has been fighting to lower housing costs for all Nevadans. She recently introduced the Housing Oversight and Mitigating Exploitation (HOME) Act to crack down on housing price gouging by corporate investors who are driving up home prices by buying up housing stock. Last year, she led her colleagues in a letter to Senate appropriators requesting that they fund the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs and Supportive Housing program. Senator Rosen also helped pass legislation to provide nearly $165 million in funding to Nevada for emergency rental assistance, as well as the funding for Nevada’s $500 million Home Means Nevada Initiative.
