WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, during a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosa (D-NV), questioned Russell Vought, President Trump’s nominee to serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, on the President’s threat to withhold funding from Nevada over the state’s legal vote-by-mail policy.
“Mr. Vought, a couple of weeks ago, the President sent out a tweet, claiming that if my home state of Nevada ‘thinks that they can send out illegal vote by mail ballots,’ then he, the President, thinks that he ‘can hold up funds to the State,’ ” said Senator Rosen. “The President directed the Tweet to you, Mr. Vought – at the end he tagged you via @RussVought45.”
“As Acting Director of OMB, do you believe funding should be withheld from my state as a result of it instituting a wholly legal vote-by-mail policy, and if so, what critical funding should my home state of Nevada be denied?” asked Senator Rosen.
“If the President reiterates his desire to unlawfully withhold funding from Nevada, will you comply with his order or follow the law?” Senator Rosen followed up.
