Rosen Co-Sponsors NO HATE Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosa (D-NV) announced her co-sponsorship of the Khalid Jabara-Heather Heyer NO HATE Act, legislation that would improve hate crimes reporting and expand assistance and resources for victims of hate crimes.

Hate has no place in Nevada – it goes against everything we stand for as a community and as a country,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m co-sponsoring the NO HATE Act to give communities the resources they need to track and deter acts of violence and bigotry in our communities. I will continue working in Congress to stand up against hate in all its forms to give Nevadans the  security and justice they deserve.”

BACKGROUND: los Khalid Jabara-Heather Heyer NO HATE Act would combat the recent surge in hate crimes by:

  • Improving reporting of hate crimes by expanding tools for law enforcement agencies to record and report detailed information to the FBI.
  • Supporting law enforcement agencies that establish policies on identifying, investigating and reporting hate crimes; train officers on how to identify hate crimes; develop systems for collecting hate crimes data; establish hate crimes units; and engage in community relations.
  • Providing grants for states to establish and run hate crime hotlines, record information about hate crimes, and redirect victims and witnesses to law enforcement and local support services as needed.
  • Allowing judges to require individuals convicted under federal hate crime laws to undergo community service or education.
