WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) applauded the news that Governor Lombardo and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology (OSIT) have established the Nevada Middle Mile Network with help from federal funding she secured. Part of the $250 million used to create this network comes from the tens of millions of dollars that Senator Rosen’s Middle Mile Broadband Deployment Act and additional federal funding have delivered for high-speed internet infrastructure in Nevada. This project will build the Middle Mile Network, a 2,500-mile open access, fiber optic network that will connect underserved communities in the state to high-speed internet.
“Access to high-speed internet is a modern-day necessity, but far too many Nevadans, particularly families living in rural communities, still lack access to affordable and reliable internet service,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “It’s why I created the federal program to fund Middle Mile investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and fought to secure Nevada’s fair share of the money. I’m so proud to see this federal funding I secured being deployed to help expand access to high-speed internet throughout Nevada.”
Senator Rosen has been leading efforts to lower costs and expand high-speed internet access. Earlier this year, she helped introduce the bipartisan Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act to ensure qualifying households across Nevada continue to have access to affordable high-speed internet through the Affordable Connectivity Program she helped create. In March, she led a group of 33 of her colleagues in urging Senate leadership to include funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program as part of future must-pass legislation, including the next government funding package. In October, Senator Rosen also led a group of 31 colleagues in urging Congressional leaders to extend funding for this critical program. Senator Rosen also successfully pressed the Federal Communications Commission to fix their deeply flawed broadband maps, resulting in more than $416 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s BEAD Program coming to Nevada to connect families to high-speed internet. Rosen was also a leading author of the broadband section of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
