Rosen-Backed Legislation Received Bipartisan Support, Would Have Made Historic Investments To Secure The Border And Combat The Fentanyl Crisis, Increase Number Of Family-Based And Employment Visas
WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted in favor of legislation to strengthen border security, restore an orderly and humane asylum process, and stop the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl. This legislation received bipartisan support. It would have invested more than $20 billion to secure the border, combatted the fentanyl crisis, and provided law enforcement the resources they need to address the unprecedented flow of migrants at the U.S. southern border, while ensuring an orderly and humane asylum process.
“We have a real crisis at the southern border, and for months I’ve been calling on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come together to pass meaningful legislation to secure our border, fix the broken asylum process, and stop the flow of fentanyl,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I voted in favor of this common-sense border security measure that was originally negotiated by Republicans and Democrats because it’s time to work together and get border law enforcement officers the resources they desperately need. Unfortunately, politics-as-usual won the day again and this bill failed. Nevadans are sick and tired of these games; it’s time for Washington to get serious and act.”
Senator Rosen has consistently worked across the aisle to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl. Earlier this month, she joined an effort urging Senate Appropriators to provide robust funding for border security and drug interdiction initiatives in the next annual funding bill, including support for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to hire additional agents. Last month, the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act Senator Rosen co-sponsored was convirtió en ley, requiring the President to sanction drug rings involved in international drug trafficking. Senator Rosen also called on President Biden to prioritize robust funding to secure the U.S. southern border and stop fentanyl smuggling in his budget. Earlier this year, her bipartisan END FENTANYL Act was signed into law, which will help crack down on drug smuggling.
