Rosen Slams Opposition to Bipartisan Bill Banning Bump Stocks

Watch Senator Rosen’s full remarks HERE

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) slammed opposition in the Senate to a unanimous consent request to pass a bipartisan bill she cosponsored to ban bump stocks in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the Trump-era ban. Senator Rosen called out extreme Republicans who dismissed the need to ban bump stocks and highlighted the devastation these firearm modifications caused during the 1 October shooting in Las Vegas.

Senator Rosen has been a strong supporter of banning bump stocks. In 2018, she welcomed the Trump Administration’s action to federally ban bump stocks in the aftermath of the 1 October shooting. Since then, Senator Rosen has been calling for bipartisan, common-sense legislation to permanently ban bump stocks and save lives. For years, she has renewed this call on the Senate floor and urged her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to take bipartisan action.

Below are Senator Rosen’s remarks as delivered:

I want to quickly address the Supreme Court’s recent decision on bump stocks.

My community, my city, my state were forever changed on 1 October, and saying that banning bump stocks solves “a fake” problem is disgraceful and offensive.

We lost Nevadans that day. Sixty people were killed in the largest mass shooting in American history; families were torn apart. For us, the carnage created by bump stocks is very real.

So, shame on anyone who says they’re a fake problem.

The Trump-era ban was common sense and saved lives. We now have a responsibility to make it permanent in federal law. I call on all of my colleagues to let this legislation move forward today.
