FERNLEY, NV – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that Nevada will receive $6.1 million to support northern Nevada’s economy by expanding the Port of Nevada in Fernley. This expansion will include additional industrial building space, more acres of container storage yards, 20,000 feet of new rail, and a 10-acre commercial district to support the on-site workforce. The funding comes after Senator Rosen sent a letter urging DOT to consider the Northern Nevada Development Authority’s application for this funding.
“The Port of Nevada is crucial for northern Nevada’s economy and local jobs. I’m proud to have helped secure more than $6 million dollars to support and expand this critical port,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’ll keep working to deliver the resources Nevada needs to grow and diversify its economic and transportation sectors.”
“This new investment in Northern Nevada’s rail infrastructure will create jobs and help grow our local economy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The Port of Nevada will also provide a great opportunity for local manufacturing and technology companies to have faster, more reliable access to critical supply chains. I’m proud to see it funded.”
Senator Rosen and Senator Cortez Masto have been strong supporters of the rail economy in Nevada. Earlier this year, both Senators and other Nevada lawmakers announced over $28 million for Elko rail corridor enhancement through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law they helped pass. Last year, Senator Rosen sent a letter urging DOT to stand ready to receive the Nevada Department of Transportation’s application for funding to build Brightline West. After this application was submitted, Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto led a bipartisan group of colleagues in voicing their strong support of the project. Thanks to their efforts, led by Senator Rosen, they’ve secured $3 billion in federal funding to bring high-speed rail to Las Vegas.
