WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, released the following statement announcing that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) has provided a grant for $300,000 that will be used to help support first-generation students and students from low-income backgrounds at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPI)-serving institution.
“Even in these challenging times, education is the key to not just success as an individual, but it’s the key to helping our communities reach new heights,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Nearly 4,500 undergraduates at UNLV are Asian American or Native American Pacific Islanders, and over 8,200 undergraduate students come from low-income backgrounds or are first-generation-college students in need of support. I am glad to see this grant funding awarded to UNLV will provide students with assistance to break through barriers that might otherwise prevent them from receiving a quality education. I will continue working in Congress to support all Nevadans’ educational pursuits, and I will keep working to ensure that Nevada receives its fair share of federal funds to support our students.”
