WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after voting to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. Secretary of Labor.
“Nevada’s economy is powered by countless hardworking men and women and a strong labor community, and we need more advocates in Washington who support pro-labor policies to improve workers’ lives,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Lori Chavez-DeRemer has a record of standing with labor, and is qualified to serve as Secretary of Labor. While I may not agree with everything she does, I voted to confirm her because I believe she is a nominee who I can work with to deliver for Nevada workers and their families.”
As a former union member, Senator Rosen has been a strong advocate for Nevada’s workers. Last week, she helped reintroduce the PRO Act, comprehensive labor legislation to protect the rights of workers to stand together and bargain for fair wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces. Last year, Rosen helped introduce the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act to federally guarantee the right of law enforcement officials and other public employees to organize and collectively bargain. Last Congress, she co-sponsored the FAMILY Act, which would provide all workers with twelve weeks of paid parental, medical, and caregiving leave. Senator Rosen has also helped introduce legislation to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
