Rosen, Cortez Masto Announce $6.5 Million Grant Funding to Support Affordable Housing in Nevada

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Reno Housing Authority and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority a series of grants totaling $6,546,189. These grants will be used to fund the development and modernization of public affordable housing properties in Nevada.

“We are pleased to see this grant funding go toward Nevada organizations as they make much-needed improvements to public affordable housing across the state, allowing more individuals and families to have a safe place to live and call home,” said the Senators. “We will continue our efforts to ensure hard-working Nevadans can access safe and affordable housing during and after this public health crisis.”

BACKGROUND: Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. There are approximately 1.2 million households living in public housing units in the United States.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local public housing authorities (PHAs) that manage affordable housing developments throughout their states for low-income residents at rents they can afford.

 The grant funding will be distributed as follows:
