LAS VEGAS, NV – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), held a virtual roundtable with the Women of Washoe, a chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans, to hear from them on issues impacting Nevada seniors.

I am also proud to be the recipient of their HERO award, which recognizes my legislative record of supporting seniors. I am taking their stories with me to Washington and will continue working to see that older Nevadans get the support and care they earned over a lifetime of hard work.”
BACKGROUND: The Alliance for Retired Americans’ HERO Award recognizes members of Congress who have voted 100% in support of senior issues over the past year.
Last Congress, Rosen cosponsored the Women’s Retirement Protection Act, which addresses the fact that women lose an average of more than $400,000 over a 40-year career due to the wage gap, and are 80% more likely to face poverty in retirement by:
- Changing minimum participation standards for long-term, part-time workers—most of whom are women— to expand access to retirement plans
- Extending spousal protections against one spouse undermining a couple’s retirement resources without the other’s knowledge and consent
- Including grants to help low-income women and survivors of domestic abuse receive retirement benefits they are entitled to following a divorce
Also last Congress, Rosen cosponsored the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), provisions that significantly reduce Social Security benefits for nearly 2.3 million Americans.
