WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) applauded the news that the College of Southern Nevada will receive $2.48 million dollars to expand broadband services for minority communities. The funding comes from the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program, which awards funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) for the purchase of broadband internet access service and eligible equipment or to hire and train information technology personnel.
“High-speed internet is an essential part of life for families and students in Nevada, but technological disparities limit access to critical digital tools for many students,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m glad to see the College of Southern Nevada will receive nearly $2.5 million to help increase access to high-speed internet for students and the surrounding community.”
Senator Rosen has been a strong advocate for expanding high-speed internet access in Nevada. The American Rescue Plan, which Senator Rosen helped pass, established the $10 billion Capital Projects Fund to provide funding to states, territories, and Tribal governments to invest in high-quality broadband as well as other connectivity infrastructure, devices, and equipment. Senator Rosen also helped write the broadband section of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law last year, which established the Affordable Connectivity Program and is delivering $65 billion in overall investment to make broadband available and affordable to Americans.
