Declaration Will Open Access To Federal Funds To Help Repair Nevadans’ Homes And Businesses
WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV) applauded news that, after they sent a letter in support of Governor Lombardo’s request, President Biden has issued the Major Disaster Declaration for Nevada in the wake of a series of severe winter storms. This declaration will provide Nevada with federal resources to help residents, property, local businesses, tribal communities, and public infrastructure recover from unprecedented flooding across the state. The storms resulted in devastating damage across Nevada, causing widespread flooding, rockslides, and landslides that have threatened communities and contributed to more than $10 million in damages to public infrastructure.
“The damage caused by severe winter storms and flooding across large parts of Nevada requires swift federal action to help the affected communities, which is why I urged the President to grant Governor Lombardo’s request to issue a disaster declaration,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m glad to announce the Administration has quickly approved this request, and I will continue working with both the state government and the Nevada congressional delegation to see that our state gets the resources it needs.”
“Nevada has already suffered over $10 million in damages from this year’s extreme winter, and I’m glad the President heeded my call to issue a major disaster declaration for the state,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This will deliver vital funding and support for our rural communities, and I’ll keep working to support Nevada as it recovers.”
“I want to thank President Biden for swiftly approving the disaster declaration for Nevadans affected by the severe winter storms. Constituents of mine in Lincoln, Lyon and Mineral counties urgently need assistance to pay for repair and replacement of homes and businesses damaged by the severe weather,” said Congressman Horsford. “My office is a resource to residents who need assistance, and I will be reaching out directly to offer assistance and guidance as my constituents navigate the process.”
