The Bipartisan END FENTANYL Act And FEND Off Fentanyl Act Both Passed The Senate With Rosen’s Support
WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that two bipartisan bills she’s supported to crack down on illegal fentanyl trafficking into the United States have passed the Senate as part of this year’s national defense bill, the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (S.2226). The Eradicating Narcotic Drugs and Formulating Effective New Tools to Address National Yearly Losses of Life (END FENTANYL) Act, which Rosen helped introduce, would help end drug smuggling by requiring the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to regularly update its drug interdiction guidance. Currently, many CBP policies that outline drug interdiction practices are outdated and do not provide guidance on how to handle drugs such as fentanyl. The Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act, which Rosen co-sponsored would require the President to sanction drug rings involved in international drug trafficking, including suppliers in China and cartels from Mexico.
“Stopping the flow of deadly fentanyl into Nevada starts by strengthening the resources that law enforcement has to prevent drugs at our border and by targeting international traffickers and criminal networks,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m glad to see that these bipartisan bills I’ve supported to prevent fentanyl from coming into the United States have passed the Senate and are one step closer to becoming law. I will continue working to keep dangerous drugs out of our communities and help make our state safer.”
Senator Rosen continues to work toward ending fentanyl trafficking and drug smuggling into the United States. Last Congress, Rosen’s bipartisan Department of Homeland Security Opioid Detection Resilience Act was signed into law, strengthening law enforcement resources by ensuring that Homeland Security personnel have adequate chemical screening devices and technology to detect synthetic opioids.
