WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced the bipartisan Love Lives On Act, which she co-sponsored, has passed the Senate as part of this year’s national defense bill. This bipartisan legislation would allow surviving spouses to retain their benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense upon remarrying at any age. Currently, surviving spouses under the age of 55 lose survivor benefits if they remarry.
“Gold Star spouses who have lost a loved one serving our nation should not be cut off from benefits they are owed because of arbitrary restrictions and red tape if they choose to eventually remarry,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m glad to see legislation I supported to ensure Gold Star spouses retain their survivor benefits if they find new love has passed the Senate, and is now one step closer to becoming law.”
Senator Rosen is a strong supporter of our nation’s servicemembers, veterans, and their families. As part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, Senator Rosen secured a provision that would help expand family support services for those who serve at remote installations like Creech Air Force Base and Naval Air Station Fallon. She also recently joined the bipartisan Military Spouse Hiring Act to improve hiring opportunities for military spouses who often face additional barriers to employment due to frequent moves in the military. Last year, Senator Rosen helped introduce the Military Family Nutrition Access Act to support active duty military families experiencing food insecurity.
