WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced her original co-sponsorship of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s (D-NV) Renewable Energy Extension Act, legislation that would extend clean energy tax incentives set to expire at the end of 2019.
“By making continued investments in renewables, we can make energy alternatives more affordable for Nevada’s working families,” said Senator Rosen. “This legislation will extend renewable energy tax cuts, allowing more people access to this green technology. I will continue to identify commonsense measures that move us towards a clean energy economy.”
BACKGROUND: The Renewable Energy Extension Act of 2019 would provide a 5-year extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) and residential renewable energy tax credit for solar, delaying the incremental phase out that Congress passed in 2015. In addition to solar, the bill extends the ITC for other clean energy technologies set to phase out, such as fiber-optic solar, fuel cells, small wind, microturbines, combined heat and power, and geothermal heat pumps.
Earlier this year, Senator Rosen helped introduce the Electric CARS Act of 2019, bicameral legislation that would fully extend the Electric Vehicle (EV) tax credit for 10 years and help develop critical alternative fuel charging infrastructure.
While serving as a president of Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, Rosen led a team that constructed one of the largest solar projects by a non-profit in southern Nevada through a public-private partnership. The solar array helped cut the synagogue’s energy bills by up to 70 percent.
