Rosen, Cortez Masto Announce Judicial Nominees for Nevada’s U.S. District Court Vacancies

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced today that President Joe Biden has nominated two Nevadans for the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, Judge Cristina Silva and Professor Anne Traum. The White House selected two nominees from a list of candidates vetted by the senators’ bipartisan judicial commissions.

“President Biden has put forward two highly qualified and experienced Nevada women to fill these judicial vacancies for our state, and the Senate should confirm both of these exceptional nominees to the federal bench,” said Senator Rosen. “Judge Silva is a trailblazing former prosecutor and fair-minded judge, and Professor Traum is a distinguished legal expert and highly regarded educator. I’m grateful to our bipartisan judicial commission members for their hard work and the White House for collaborating with me and Senator Cortez Masto during this process.”

“Judge Silva and Professor Traum are dedicated and fair-minded Nevadans who will make excellent additions to the federal bench,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’m glad the Administration has put forth these nominations from our bipartisan judicial commissions, and I look forward to working to get them confirmed as soon as possible.”

Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto established two bipartisan judicial commissions to vet and recommend qualified judicial nominees for federal appointments to the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The two commissions are responsible for interviewing applicants and submitting to the Senators the names of candidates deemed qualified for the federal bench. Traditionally, U.S. Senators confer with the White House and propose candidates for the President to nominate to fill judicial vacancies in their home state.
